Local Area

A full countryside experience is on your doorstep!

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape straight from your front door. The footpath leads from our garden gate through our fields to a small stream which you can cross into open farmland and meander through arable and pastureland towards neighbouring villages.

Taking the footpath in the other direction leads you past the manor and along Ladywalk to the small 13th century parish church, which is the focal point of the village of Pillerton Hersey. Footpaths weave through the delightful village and out into the countryside again. Although there is no pub in the village, there are two great country pubs within striking distance, The Chequers at Ettington and The Peacock at Oxhill. Each are around three miles away and can be reached in 5-10 minutes by car or within an hour by easy cross country and small lane walks.

Conveniently positioned between the picturesque Warwickshire towns of Shipston-on-Stour, Stratford upon Avon, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa, the Oxfordshire market towns of Chipping Norton and Banbury and on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, Carpenters' Barn serves as an ideal centre for exploring this breathtaking region.

Local amenities including pubs, post office, garage, village shops, chemist and convenience stores which await in the nearby villages of Ettington and Kineton, both around three miles away, with further shops, a great butcher and a Sainsbury's in Wellesbourne, just six miles away.

We are surrounded by a wealth of National Trust and other properties - Upton House, Charlecote Park, Chastleton, Coughton Court, Hidcote Gardens, Batsford Arboretum, Broadway Tower, Snowshill, Kiftsgate Gardens, Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House are all within easy reach and we must not forget the Shakespeare properties in Stratford upon Avon just 15 minutes away.

The renowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford upon Avon is within easy reach as well with a wealth of pubs and restaurants in town as well as the theatre rooftop restaurant for pre or post performance dining.

The extraordinary Compton Verney art gallery, designed by Robert Adam and with landscaped grounds attributed to Capability Brown has a wonderful permanent collection of art and regular touring exhibitions together with stunning regular events and exhibitions in the grounds just 10 minutes drive away.

Travel just a little further afield and you will reach Sudeley Castle, Blenheim Palace, The Cotswolds Distillery, Kenilworth Castle, steam trains, the National Motor Museum, The National Arboretum, Diddly Squat.....but the jewel in the crown might just be that glorious Cotswold landscape and the perfect towns and villages that grew up from its agricultural heritage - Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Campden, Stow on the Wold, Broadway, Bourton on the Water, the Slaughters, the Swells....

Our cottage is popular with business visitors as well. We provide a quiet and relaxing haven at the end of a hard day's work. Here's a small selection of pictures just walking around the footpath network from Carpenters' Barn...

We really have something for everyone within reach of our hidden corner of rural England!
